AElfric Ashcroft, British Columbia
AElfric is one of the main pioneers of the revival of traditional ancient heathen folk music. This music is sung in the ancient languages of Anglo-Saxon and Gothic, using the traditional ancient poetic verse form such as that found in the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf, that was used by the Scops (Bards) of old. I waited for a second tape edition, but now, after the debut is released, I have to realize, that I quite certain missed one of the best neofolk demos made ever... But fortunately we live in a digital age, where material values dissolve more and more, so I can enjoy this great music without having something physical!

Curse of the Cwelled

What a ride and what a journey! While I am rather new to Forefather, with much more to discover and seek out in their impressive discography, I find this offering following along the lines of "Steadfast", but far excelling it in songwriting, musicianship, and production with all due respects to that incredible album, which still gets its proper share of attention on my tape player! On "Curse of the Cwelled", however, Forefather seems to have truly mastered their craft of Anglo-Saxon Metal, and while I've been only listening to the album for a week or so, I've found many songs which were at one time favorites. Its taken me some time and difficulty picking and singling out only one since then. I'm sure I'll find a different song in the next few days to label as the favorite, but like "Steadfast", I can't find any weaknesses! It's an enjoyable listen throughout, with many memorable and magical moments!

Fire in the White Stone

Fire in the White Stone is one of the most memorable Germanic folk albums to date, and certainly the most imaginative. Unlike Songs from the Fyrgen, I'd recommend strictly listening to this album in its intended order, for the progression of the sounds and mood will unfold an intriguing yet recognizable narrative in the mind of anyone whose blood was shaped by the forests of Europe so long ago.
